With the recent invasion of managed care services, as well as a reduction in hospital stays and inpatient surgery, the traffic in physician’s offices clinics, and 24-hour emergency facilities has become more and more active. This has resulted in a larger, more specialized ancillary staff in these facilities. In addition, with the time constraints facing many Americans today, it is important that the medical offices visited have well-trained, efficient staff in their presence. With this in mind, AVTECH, Inc. has developed a 200-hour EKG program comprised of two basic areas of training. In the medical terminology component, the student will have an introduction to medical terminology (including word roots, prefixes, suffixes, and etc. relative to the healthcare field) and will learn the structure, physiology and pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system. The second component, The EKG Program, teaches the student what he/she will need to know to be an EKG Technician in a physician’s office, clinic, hospital, or any other health care related office where a EKG specialist would be employed.
This 200-hour program is an entry-level position for an individual who is seeking employment in the medical field but is not interested in the more technical skills that would apply to a medical assistant position. Upon completion of this program, students will possess skills necessary for employment in the medical office (physician’s office, emergency medical facility, clinic, etc.) as an EKG Technician. Students will also possess a working knowledge of medical terminology, including prefixes, suffixes, and word roots along with practical EKG clinical skills.
