NUR 101: Fundamentals of Nursing
Course Description:
This course introduces the practical nurse student to the basic art and science of nursing.
It incorporates the client health care delivery system, current trends and issues, infection control,
legal and ethical parameters of nursing practice, the nursing process, health assessment and
physical examination, medication administration including dosage and calculations.
The role of a practical nurse is integrated throughout the curriculum using Maslow's
Hierarchy of Needs as the basis of determining priorities and critical thinking skills. The student
will also participate in nursing laboratory and clinical experiences in a variety of clinical settings
and care for the adult clients.
NUR 102: Gerontology and Mental Health Nursing
Course Description:
This course covers the care of clients with psychosocial problems, alterations in mental health
and the aging process. Utilizing Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs the learner will integrate this
framework when prioritizing the health care needs of the assigned clients. Clinical experience
will be provided in long term care, community and acute care agencies.
NUR 103: Maternal and Children Health/Pediatrics
Course Description:
This course focuses on the pediatric client and the women's health. Identify the biological and
psychological conditions in children along with maternal psychological changes. Utilizing
Maslow, Freud, Erikson, and Piaget frameworks, the learner will be able to integrate and
prioritize nursing care. Clinical experience will be provided in community acute care women's
health care agencies.
NUR 104: Acute Care Nursing
Course Description:
This course focuses on clients with acute care needs. Utilizing Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs the
learner will be able to integrate and prioritize nursing care of acutely ill students. Clinical
experience will be provided in acute health care facilities.
NUR 105: Comprehensive Review of NUR101, NUR102, NUR 103, NUR104;
NCLEX PN Review ; and Career Development
Course Description:
The course includes comprehensive review of NUR101, NUR102, NUR103, NUR104; NCLEXPN
Review; and Career Development. The career development include proper communication,
decision making, resume writing, and personality development.
